Mockupation of the Day: At the urging of the official Occupy Wall Street Twitter feed, protesters raided a tent city set up in Foley Square for the filming of an Occupy Wall Street-themed episode of Law and Order: SVU.

The Zuccotti Park replica came complete with its own People’s Kitchen and People’s Library. “They’ve delivered us this perfectly wrapped Christmas present with a bow on top: They rebuilt our camp,” OWS organizer Jake DeGroot told MoJo’s Josh Harkinson, adding “how could we not go and take it?”

When the NYPD eventually moved in to clear the Mockupiers from Fake Zuccotti Park, the crowd began chanting “NYPD does not respect Law And Order.” The scene was so surreal, in fact, that one participant was forced to ask a police officer if one of the barricades was real “or a set piece.”

Love that this happened and yet it’s so bizarre.

Something about costumes, fictional depictions, themed parties, etc. based on the OWS protests feels like the worst kind of profiteering to me.

Last night I saw a full-store display at a boutique designer on Robertson Blvd in Beverly Hills, for their new “Occupy Your Home” home fashion concept (fancy stuff + tents indoors, essentially), and I felt a sudden urge to smash all their windows in. 

Obviously I didn’t, and I went and performed at a stand-up show and then had a burrito.
